"KEEPING FAMILIES CLOSER"

MEET THE TEAM

William Cane, CO-FOUNDER

William’s purpose and life’s work can be found in his love for business and people. His MO has always been “If you are not making somebody else’s life better, you are wasting your time”. Throughout his career, he’s always enjoyed starting or dropping back into roles at the very bottom of organizations, knowing that by continuously translating learning into high-performance work, we all reach our goals. Will has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to climb the ranks of corporations in managerial and team lead positions. Some highlights include Director, President, and CEO roles in his own ventures or as a brought-in hire. Will states often that none of this would have been made possible if it were not for the incredible mentoring he received from great leaders and the all-star teams and clients he always viewed as priority #1.

Family and lineage are something William has always looked to for inspiration through times of toil and uncertainty. His forefathers were both pioneers and mayors of the Newmarket and Muskoka region including his namesake William Cane and Charles Mickle of Gravenhurst, ON. When times are tough, he seeks their guidance from what little his family has left to remember them by. This has motivated Will to push forward and begin solving the problem a lot of us face in today’s world. Many of the great stories and relics of families have been lost to time. It is Will’s mission to not let any legacy fade for future generations. Not just his own, but everyone’s. Let’s do this, Memory Jar.

Mariam Kilyana

Mariam Kilyana, DESIGNER

As a life-long learner, Mariam has always been inspired by a story. As a BHSc graduate, much of her time was spent learning the scientific explanation for why things are the way they are.

Growing up in the age of rapid technological discovery, the change in human condition fascinated her. How society fosters connections today is vastly different from 100 years ago, and she yearned to be part of that change.

Mariam began her career in tech with a Web Development diploma from BrainStation.  Afterwards, she began designing and developing websites with a number of digital marketing agencies in Toronto, working closely with their clientele to bring their vision to life.

Memory Jar brings together human experience and connection for the most important individuals in her life – family – an important feat she believes is missing in our technological landscape. Coming from an Assyrian background where her family faced diaspora, the connection Memory Jar provides is priceless.
